I'm Dr Miriam Lobo, a Brighton and Hove, Senior and Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I have more than 25 years of experience of providing psychological support both in the NHS, charities and private practice. I have extensive experience of working with both adults, children, young people and families across the majority of mental health issues and diagnosis. From anxiety conditions, health issues, relationships issues, divorce, work stress, complex medical needs, ASC, self harm, stress, OCD, depression, ASC, and longer term conditions. I have a specialised interest in ASC, Birth Trauma, sexual health, OCD and anxiety presentations. I split my time to work with both adults, young people and families, businesses and staff working in mental health. I love to work with all my clients and work across clients and organisations practising as a psychologist. I love the challenge of understanding and helping clients get better and reach their goals. Due to my background, I have a wealth of understanding and passion for child and family, adolescence, complex and special needs and all mental health. In addition to adults, I am teen friendly and to work with young people and teenagers and I am popular with them in my practice! In addition, I often work with people struggling with life transitions and I am experienced in helping with relationship, addiction and bereavement issues. I realise that I have been dedicated to my clinical work for a long time and I would hope the passion, years of clinical experience and high level of psychological training impacts hugely on the support and therapy that you would be offered. I have many returning clients over the years and I am proud to say see the impact of good psychological therapy. My approach, I work usually with clients for short periods of time to help with their goals and reduce clinical symptoms or anxiety.
I offer individual psychological therapies and consultation tailored around your concerns and needs. Most important is a good assessment and then I work with most evidence based therapies models to meet the clients needs. I think that therapy should be short term and goal based. When working with children and young people I find it important to get a good understanding of their passions and that therapy is adjusted and tailored to their developmental needs and goals. My approach is that therapy should be a special space to understand the concerns and symptoms. In therapy we will explore your personal stories and aim together to create positive changes. It should help with getting through the daily struggles on modern life. Good therapy should help you feel more supported, confident and able to deal with everyday challenges. It should reduce the symptoms and increase coping with difficulties. I use integrated model based on the assessment and I am trained in many areas of therapy (Psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, compassionate focused, motivational Interviewing, Systemic and Narrative therapy and so on). All of my work is informed by my clinical practices and understanding of mental health diagnosis and developmental conditions. As a clinical psychologist, we are trained to understand clinical conditions and use the best approach psychological for helping with symptoms or problems.
I have worked in NHS, charities and private practice offering assessments and psychological therapies across most areas of mental health and health services. My background is in neuroscience, special needs, child and family and health services. I have worked in both diagnostic settings and therapy services in the health service and trained to assess developmental diagnosis such as Autism.
