Hello, I'm Renate. I understand that starting counselling can feel daunting and overwhelming. I started my journey to becoming a qualified counsellor when I realised how much counselling had helped me through my struggles. Together we can work on finding ways for you to feel braver to be who you are, not who you feel you should be. Our focus together will be on you, your needs and priorities. I will be here to support you.

I'm an Integrative Counsellor, Registered Member of the BACP and Accredited Member of NCPS. I work in a very nurturing and relational way so that you feel can feel supported from the outset. I want you to feel safe and confident that you can say whatever you need to in our sessions, knowing you can trust me to hold the space for you. I have trained in a number of different areas of counselling and I will bring in different elements if I feel these would best support you. Everyone is different and there is no one approach that works for everyone. I aim to provide you with a safe space where you can feel comfortable talking to me and feel supported and understood. I am passionate about building a strong relationship with you to ensure you feel safe and comfortable exploring your difficulties with me. I focus on what is important to you in a nurturing, supportive way, providing a different perspective when you are finding it difficult to see a way through your problems. I wouldn't want to share how I feel with someone I don't trust, so building trust in my relationship with you is integral for me. I'm open and honest, and will work with you to enable you to gain the most out of our sessions. In our first session we will explore what has brought you to counselling and what you want to focus on. It will be an opportunity for us to meet each other and get a sense of what is important to you. You know yourself better than anyone else does. We will go at your pace and focus on what you are finding most difficult in your life. We can meet together in person in Brighton or Hove in my therapy rooms or online if that works better for you.

I am an integrative therapeutic counsellor and work with adults and young people. I have worked for the NHS (in the service that provide diagnoses of ADHD, Autism and Tics and Tourette's). I understand how difficult it is to wait for a diagnosis, receive a late diagnosis and look back on life with a new perspective. During my volunteer work for a crisis helpline I supported people who had reached a point in their lives where they felt their only choice was to end their lives. Alongside working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, low self-esteem and other difficulties, I have experience of supporting clients dealing with grief, loss and bereavement. Working with you, I aim to create a relationship where you feel comfortable talking to me about what has brought you to reach out for help and support. I have proven experience in safeguarding adults and young people and I am committed to professional development, working towards further qualifications to enhance my skills working with children and young people.
