Early life trauma and the emotional pain that follows may cause us to choose many different ways of coping which, in themselves, can be perceived to be part of a bigger problem. I examine what it feels like to be part of a broken world from a perspective of trauma and addiction looking to provide stability and support while reintegrating thoughts and emotions. I offer the opportunity to discuss how we deal with the pressures of modern life from the perspective of the self whilst understanding that some of the choices we make are damaging to ourselves and others, such as toxic masculinity, suicide and online addiction. Societal constraints may play a part in the micro-stresses we feel whilst trying to explore who we are and how we relate to others. Trauma and GSDR informed, and specialising in many forms of addictions such as gambling, social media, sex and pornography, knowledgeable of the damage that may be caused if both partners are not in agreement regarding boundaries. Initially coupes therapy trained and therefore conscious of the “third” in the room and how to frame conversations that openly discuss what both parties seek, moving towards reframing the relationship so that understanding and stability can be achieved.
Initially Couples Therapy Trained at the renowned Tavistock Institute with a psychodynamic underpinning, my main theoretical approach is very much from the perspective of trauma and addiction and its impact on the relationship. The tools I use are primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic counselling delivered face-to-face or online therapy focusing on delivering positive solutions that enable you to move forward.
With a main theoretical underpinning in trauma and addiction, as well as being Trauma and GSRD informed I balance my therapeutic work with “thought leadership” internationally in the field of addiction, primarily gambling. Pathways to addiction is a rapidly developing area with the focus on “what happened to you”. Only through understanding this process, is it possible to understand fully what is currently causing you problems. This may be the result of early life trauma, conflict due to your relationship with others or societal constraints forcing you into a role that does not fit with your growing understanding of “self” in relation to gender or sexual orientation
