Since 1997 I have been working with a broad range of clients with psychological, emotional and relational difficulties (including the relationship with ourselves and our self care behaviours). I have experience of working psychologically within the context of long term conditions.
Cognitive Analytic Therapy is a time framed, change oriented and relational therapy. The sessions are structured, with a beginning, middle and end, usually 16-24 weeks. CAT is creative as well as highly collaborative. I would be happy to talk through the model in more detail and suggest taking a look at the website www.acat.me.uk where you can find lots of helpful information. CAT gets to the heart of the matter quickly. Working together, we identify habitual patterns, that perhaps began their life as necessary survival strategies, but these days, may hold you back from more comfortable and manageable relationships. Working together, we discover options for experimenting in breaking unhelpful patterns and finding new ways to relate with our selves and others.
My core profession was mental health nursing. Years of establishing and building therapeutic alliances with clients, led to appreciation of the healing power of the therapeutic relationship, regardless of the model of therapy. I was naturally drawn to relational models of therapy and discovered Cognitive Analytic Therapy during my years as a community specialist MH nurse. I trained as a CAT practitioner and CAT supervisor during my NHS career and now have a small private practice.
