Therapists

Hello and a warm welcome to you. I'm Kim, and I'm a qualified humanistic psychotherapeutic counsellor working with adults of all ages, backgrounds and life experiences. Whatever you are bringing to counselling, I offer a safe, confidential space where you can pause and reflect, without fear of judgement, or the need to be anything other than you are. I know how important it is that you find a therapist you feel comfortable with, and provide a reduced-fee initial session for £30 (subsequent sessions are £60). I work online or face-to-face, and offer short-term as well as longer-term therapy.

As a humanistic counsellor, I have a deep respect for the complexity and unique experience of each person who comes to see me. This means that I adapt the way I work to your needs and wishes. My aim is to facilitate a collaborative relationship within which we can work with whatever you bring – at a pace that feels right for you. I see counselling as a fluid and lively process that can facilitate self-awareness and lasting change. Often the process of being deeply heard and understood can be enough to bring insight and also to allow you to view yourself with greater acceptance and self-compassion. Gaining clarity about the way you experience the world can help you come to terms with pain and difficulty, and see where you may be making choices that are rooted in past strategies which no longer serve you. It can also encourage a greater sense of freedom about who you are, the choices you make, and how you might live. I work in a trauma-informed and client-led way.

I have a postgraduate diploma in humanistic psychotherapeutic counselling from the University of Brighton. I also have specialist training in grief and loss. For several years I was a bereavement volunteer at Cruse, where I also co-facilitated one of the first online support groups in East Sussex. I also worked in a team of trauma-informed therapists at a women’s centre as part of my training. I am a long-time practitioner of yoga and meditation, which I believe brings steadiness and compassion to my work. I am happy to share mindfulness and self-compassion techniques with clients who would like to explore this way of being.
