Sometimes life is really hard. Whether it's problems with relationships, anxiety, depression or intrusive thoughts about traumatic events or things we've done wrong in the past, we all struggle at times. We can get overwhelmed with guilt for not coping, shame for having failed and sometimes we can end up not really liking ourselves very much. It can feel as if we're alone in the world and nobody else gets it. We might self medicate with substances or other behaviours which we know don't really help, but they seem better than nothing. But they just perpetuate the cycle. I can offer you a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to organise and reframe those overwhelming feelings and see the wood for the trees. I can help you understand yourself better and to begin to look in the mirror and like what you see. We're all unique and it's really important to find the right counsellor for you. Because of this I offer a free, no obligation introductory online session for you to work out whether I am right for you. You can read more about me at https://andywolagecounselling.co.uk/
What I provide is a safe space where you can explore your true thoughts and feelings without being judged. The feelings you experience might feel uncomfortable, overwhelming or somehow make you a bad person. But to say those things out loud in a safe space, and to understand that your feelings are valid and 'normal' can help you to understand and process things which are difficult or painful to deal with alone. This in turn can empower you and help you build confidence and resilience. My practice is integrative which encompasses different therapy styles. We will work together in a variety of different ways, depending upon what is the most appropriate at the time. This might include looking at recurring patterns throughout your life which contribute to difficulties, or we might explore triggers caused by specific situations, and work through coping mechanisms. Most people find it useful to re-examine past experiences which are a source of anger, guilt and shame, and reframe them to come to acceptance. It may just be that you need that hour a week to focus on you. It may be that you need to learn to be kinder to yourself.
I am a BACP and NCPS registered psychotherapeutic counsellor. My training was integrative with a focus upon person centred therapy, which means that whilst placing your feelings and experiences at the core of our work, I can use different therapy styles to meet your needs at any given time. I have extensive lived and professional experience of many kinds of issue including bereavement and grief, anxiety, depression,. substance abuse, domestic abuse, trauma, self esteem and relationship problems, along with many others. In addition to my private practice I have worked as a volunteer counsellor at Change Grow Live, an agency helping those recovering from substance abuse.
