Counselling offers the chance to slow down and have the time to talk about issues in your life that you may never have spoken of to anybody. You have the opportunity to really feel heard, develop further insight, explore and also to challenge yourself to make changes in your life. In our counselling work we would discuss your issues and your hopes for what can be achieved in the work and we would review these regularly so that you will be shaping the therapy to suit your wants and needs. I make use of a combination of the therapies, widely used in the NHS and in private clinics. These are: Experiential, Humanistic, Psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as well as the Mindfulness approach. The main emphasis is on exploring gently and with compassion and curiosity, to find creative ways of healing and moving forward. These often involve using experiential work, such as role-playing, chair work, imagery, parts-work, visualisation, as well as the use of art and meditation.

I have over 15 years experience, working with individuals, couples and groups, in the field of mental health and have worked in a wide range of settings, including GP surgeries, NHS services, mental health charities and private clinics. I also enjoy teaching and in recent years I have been an associate lecturer and tutor at universities and on psychotherapy training courses. Previously, I ran a small business, but later I decided to radically change direction and retrain as a psychologist. This was a major shift in my life, and was initially sparked by a some voluntary work I did in a homelessness charity, where I found myself drawn to sharing in people’s life journeys and offering them support and compassion. I then worked with people with severe and enduring mental health problems within the charity sector and once I qualified as a psychologist I then moved into NHS services and eventually into private practice. This has been a very rewarding journey for me, and has led to the very fulfilling and creative work I do now as a therapist. I am also a a keen artist and enjoy volunteering weekly at a mental health charity arts project in Brighton. I am a fully qualified Counselling Psychologist, registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and chartered by the British Psychological Society (BPS). My registration with professional bodies is under my full name, Eleftherios Georgiou. And I am usually referred to in my everyday practice as Terry.
