Hi, my name is Theresa. Do you feel the behaviours or substances you use to cope with everyday life are just not working for you any more. Perhaps you feel isolated, misunderstood, unheard or that you are hiding your real self from others. This may express itself in many ways including social anxiety, depression, substance abuse or avoiding difficult conversations with family, friends and wider society. My own personal recovery journey from anxiety, depression an substance abuse means I have experienced first hand the empowering and transformative effect therapy can have by exploring how the past continues to affect the present . A better understanding of the root causes of anxieties, depression or substance misuse can enable you to make more positive life choices. I also understand the kinds of issues and stumbling blocks that can come up when starting to explore deep rooted beliefs about yourself and others. Being heard and accepted in a non-judgemental safe space allows you to start to grow and change. Some of the benefits can be: • Increased self esteem • Confidence in showing yourself to society • Help processing painful feelings • Ability to set healthy boundaries • Better relationships, more confidence and enjoyment in life If you are interested in counselling but unsure what to expect contact me above or e mail me directly at depreytherapy@gmail.com to arrange a free introductory call where you can find more about how we would work together and ask any questions you have. If we decide to work together I charge £60 for a 50 minute session.
I am a fully trained Psychodynamic Therapist and hold a postgraduate diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counselling. My approach works to uncover the roots of repetitive feelings and behaviours in order to start reframing and healing. Together we will examine whether learnt behaviours, emotional responses and coping strategies learnt in your childhood may be still negatively affecting your life today. In our first session I will complete an assessment that focuses on gaining a snapshot of the most important relationships and events in your life as well as your current situation. This gives us a good framework for our future work together. In future sessions I will be led by what you bring allowing us to focus on your priorities.
I have person experience of recovery from substance abuse, anxiety and depression. I am aware that there are many paths to recovery and am equally able to work towards an aim of abstinence or harm minimisation. In addition I have worked for 7 years supporting those suffering the effects of trauma, anxiety and substance abuse. I have most recently worked in hostels with adult men and women in addiction as well as at the Women's Centre in Brighton as well as a hostel for those in active addiction with complex trauma and mental health needs.
