I can help you if you are experiencing family difficulties, relationship problems, and have low self-confidence. I can also support you if you are struggling with an earlier or recent bereavement, or carrying a sense of loss or sadness in other ways - for who you are, what might have been, or on behalf of someone else. These concerns and experiences may leave you feeling anxious, lonely and isolated - you may not want those around you to worry, think they misunderstand you, or a critical voice gets in the way of being able to be with others, or tell them how you feel. Perhaps you find yourself meeting others' expectations or responding in ways which cause them the least discomfort, to the detriment of what you need and want. Sharing what is on your mind will bring a sense of relief - we will work together to untangle your thoughts, and reflect on what is happening.

Our fears, emotional responses and ways of relating in the present, can often be traced back to earlier times - I will be gently curious about your memories and the experiences you have had. Together, and at your pace, we can explore and make sense of any connections. Gaining an understanding of yourself in the present, by reflecting on your past, can be challenging but also empowering.  During our sessions, I will get to know you and you will find out about yourself through our relationship. We will work together to notice and understand patterns of thinking, behaviour and ways of coping, that may no longer be helpful to you, represent who you are, or want to be. I will be committed to helping you move forward and instil change. If you email me, I will get in contact to arrange a suitable time to call you. During this phone call, which is free and will last 20 minutes, you will be able to tell me what has brought you to counselling, and I will answer any questions you may have. If you choose to continue after this call, we will arrange an initial consultation either at the practice rooms I use in Hove, online or over the phone, after which you can decide whether you would like to work with me.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I have a background in teaching and pastoral work and bring an understanding of the pressures and difficulties experienced by those who work in education. I can help you if you are struggling in the workplace, both in and outside of the classroom. I have a special interest in the passing on of family trauma and history; in difficulties that may arise from an immigrant background and navigating cross-cultural and social class expectations and differences. Since retraining as a therapist, I have worked in low-cost counselling and at a University Counselling Service. Alongside my private practice, I teach accredited counselling courses to adults.
