Therapists

Hi, my name is Claire and I am a therapist and social worker, working with children, adolescents and young people (0-25 years) in the Brighton and Hove area. My passion in my work is the development of emotional intelligence and emotional regulation strategies. The reason for this being many people struggle to label the emotions they are feeling and struggle to recognise how these emotions feel within their body. In being unable to label our emotions, it becomes difficult to utilise the correct strategies to help support our emotions. This can leave many feeling they are ‘out of control’ of their emotions, and may even feel that therapy hasn’t ‘worked’ for them in the past. I believe it is imperative that finding a therapist who you connect with and feel comfortable with is the most important tool in having a beneficial therapeutic experience. Therefore, I offer a free consultation phone call where we can speak about your desired change from engaging in therapy, the focus and approach of my work, and can arrange an initial session if we feel we are well suited to work together. In my work with children and adolescents I explore different core emotions, how these emotions feel within their body, coping strategies they can utilise to regulate their emotions and how their parents/teachers can support when they feel strong emotions. With all clients I focus on slowing down in order for clients to experience their emotions in a safe and supported environment. Over time, my clients can expect to feel a greater connection to their emotions in a way that feels more embodied, and they can feel more capable of managing difficult emotions. I completed a Masters of Social Work and commenced work with children, adolescents and families in a therapeutic community outreach organisation. After completing my Masters Degree in Social Work I commenced Post Graduate studies in Developmental Psychiatry with the Mindful Institute at Melbourne University, Australia. I have since completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Child Psychotherapy and currently undertaking my Master's in Child Psychotherapy.
