I work with people experiencing bereavement (including pet loss), menopause, anxiety, stress, panic attacks, low self-esteem, life transitions and a range of other issues to achieve a state of calm, balance or acceptance. Using an integrative approach, adapted to your specific needs and through creating a safe supportive environment where you are listened to, valued and supported, I work to support you take control of your own well-being, self-belief and future. Alongside my private practice, I have extensive voluntary experience with Cruse Bereavement Support and Place2Be and have undertaken additional training in supporting those affected by trauma, menopause, dementia, suicide and self-harm. I also have recent training on supporting those within the neurodiversity the LGBTQIA+ communities. I offer counselling both online and in Brighton & Hove.
My therapeutic approach is integrative, grounded in person-centred values, and informed by psychodynamic understanding, CBT techniques, and an awareness of somatic therapy. I place the client and their individual experience at the heart of our work, offering a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts and feelings. I draw on psychodynamic ideas to help clients gain insight into how past experiences and relationships may influence their present thoughts, emotions and behaviours, while CBT techniques can offer practical ways to recognise patterns and support meaningful change. I also bring an understanding of somatic approaches, recognising the connection between mind and body and supporting clients in noticing how emotions and experiences may be held physically. I work collaboratively with clients to build self-awareness, resilience and confidence, helping them to better understand themselves and support their own wellbeing. My approach is flexible and can be adapted to short-term work — often around six weeks focusing on a specific issue — as well as longer-term, deeper therapeutic work for those who wish to explore more complex or longstanding experiences.
I am a trained and experienced counsellor, with particular experience supporting bereavement as I volunteer with Cruse Bereavement Support. Alongside my counselling work, I bring over 30 years of experience as a primary school teacher, having worked both in the UK and internationally. I have also supported older students and currently teach English to adults in language school settings. I have lived for many years in Brighton and Hove and have also spent time living in London and in a range of countries spanning five continents. These diverse personal and professional experiences have given me a broad, culturally aware perspective, which informs my counselling work and supports me in working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences.
