Therapists
Hello I’m Mary, an experienced counsellor and outdoor therapist working in Brighton, Lewes, East Sussex and online. I help people reconnect with their sense of aliveness with a combination of talking therapy, mindfulness, movement and being in nature. I believe that talking therapy helps put meaning to our experience but often our bodies hold memories and emotions that we struggle to find words for so we need to find creative ways to access and release this. Amongst other things I work with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, lack of purpose, loss and bereavement, life transitions & childhood trauma.
I see us all as unique, messy and imperfect human beings doing our best with what we have. I believe that however hard life feels right now, that we all have the potential for growth and change throughout our lives. Often how we think, act and feel has been unconsciously shaped by our early experiences. Together we can explore these patterns to see if they are still proving useful or if there are aspects of them that may be limiting your life. As awareness emerges we can explore alternative ways of being helping to establish a more healthy equilibrium. Whatever brings you to counselling I don’t see you as broken and so won’t try to fix you. I see our work as a collaborations and believe in self responsibility, so although I will gently challenge you, you get to choose the pace of the sessions and how they evolve. My main training is in Transactional Analysis (TA) which is an integrative, humanistic and person centred model. I also combine elements of polyvagal informed work, somatics, parts work and mindfulness.
My work is informed by 15 years of experience leading groups outdoors and as a massage therapist, yoga and meditation facilitator.
